DERRY Girls actors Saoirse Monica Jackson and Jamie-Lee O'Donnell are among the stars to feature in a new campaign encouraging people to visit Ireland.

Sharon Horgan from Bad Sisters is also involved in the €78 million initiative by Tourism Ireland to try to restore visitor numbers to pre-pandemic levels.

The three Irish stars feature in adverts for a global campaign, 'Fill your heart with Ireland', which was unveiled in Dublin yesterday.

Tourism Ireland said it is "about dialling up what differentiates the island of Ireland from other destinations - communicated through various celebrities, who share what fills their hearts with Ireland".

It will go live from St Patrick’s Day in four tourism markets - Great Britain, the United States, Germany and France before being rolled out to nine other areas around the world.

Around 1.3 million visitors came to the island of Ireland in 2019 spending almost €6 billion. Tourism Ireland said last year numbers were back to around 75 per cent of that following the coronavirus pandemic.

Niall Gibbons from Tourism Ireland, said: "As we emerge from Covid, our priority for the year ahead is to drive the return of revenue from overseas holidaymakers to pre-pandemic levels and to ensure that overseas tourism contributes to economic sustainability.

"In 2023, we will roll out an extensive and targeted programme of promotional activity around the globe.

"We are excited to unveil our new ‘Fill your heart with Ireland’ global campaign, which will highlight our rich and authentic experiences, breath-taking landscapes and, in particular, our warm welcome."
