THE funeral of a Co Armagh man who died in a suspected drowning incident in Thailand will take place on Monday.
Odhran O'Neill (22) from Lurgan had been visiting a nature reserve in southern Thailand when it's understood his kayak capsized in water on December 17.
A missing person appeal had been launched by his family before his body was recovered the following day.
A requiem Mass will take place at noon on Monday in St Peter's Church, Lurgan, with burial afterwards in St Colman's Cemetery. A funeral notice said he would be remembered as the beloved son of Maurice and Claire, brother of Michaela as well as by his wider family.
Family flowers only have been requested with any donations in lieu to be made to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
Earlier this month, his younger sister Michaela said his life had been "cut short and far too early".
“He was out seeing the world and living his best life…what we all have wanted for him," she said on social media.
“He will be remembered as a strong, charming and all around the best boy. Thank you to everyone has shared and we appreciate all the effort but he is now with the angels I love you forever big bro. Forever in my heart.”
Information shared from a charity operating a rescue centre at the location said Mr O'Neill had been in a reservoir at the Rajjaprabha Dam with friends when he entered the water.
It is believed that the 22-year-old had told his friends he would swim back to the shore, with the alarm raised two hours later when he they could not find him on dry land.
Local authorities then launched a search in the water and immediate shore area before finding his body several hours later.
