MEMBERS of the Northern Ireland Policing Board yesterday elected Deirdre Toner and Edgar Jardine as chair and vice-chair.

Ms Toner, who lives in Newry, is currently chairperson of the Northern Ireland Civil Service Commission. She has more than 30 years of experience of leading organisations and has spent two decades working in the public sector in health and justice.

She said she was "very much looking forward to progressing the board’s important programme of work with fellow members, with the chief constable, and all those whose contribution can assist delivery of the policing service to the community".

Mr Jardine, a former chief executive of the NI Statistics and Research Agency, has also served at senior level in the office of the first minister and deputy first minister and in the former Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure.

He said he is "delighted to have been elected to this role and very much look forward to supporting the chair in the time ahead".
