POLICE are appealing for information following a road crash involving a lorry in Co Down that has left a person in a critical condition.

The three-vehicle collision occurred in the Castlewellan Road area outside the village of Clough at around 4.15pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services including the charity air ambulance were called to the scene, and three people were taken to hospital while the road was closed to motorists for the remainder of the day.

A PSNI spokesperson said yesterday one person remained in a critical condition, and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

They said the crash involved a Kia Picanto, a Mini Copper and a Renault HGV lorry.

"Our investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances of the collision. We would appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened or who may have dash-cam footage to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1313 of 29/11/22," the spokesperson added.

Ulster Unionist councillor for the area, Alan Lewis, said: "This was a very serious collision that has left a person critical, and we are hoping that they are able to make a full recovery. It's a very worrying time for their loved ones, and I know the community will be offering the support and prayers they need."
