FOR anyone who has ever turned up to the wrong party in fancy dress or booked their flights back to front, spare a thought for SDLP MLA Justin McNulty.

Suited and booted for a gala dinner celebrating the opening of the Ulster University Belfast campus, the former All-Ireland football winner posted a selfie outside the new building to confess he had actually arrived a month early.

The response on Twitter was largely understanding, with many sharing their own stories of scheduling blunders.

One woman said: "Love it! A kid rocked up to school in an animal onesie a few years ago, to find it was not in fact pyjama day and the whole class was in normal uniform."

Another said: "I managed to turn up a month early for a job interview with Enfield Borough Council when I lived in London many years ago. It can happen."

Fianna Fáil TD Paul McAuliffe said: "All dressed up and no where to go...will someone bring the man for a pint."

Referencing his 007-style tuxedo, one Twitter user added: "Ah Mr Bond.... we weren't expecting you."
