A Co Down business is warning others to be vigilant following an armed robbery that left a female staff member shaken but otherwise unhurt.
Detectives in Downpatrick are investigating the robbery of the off licence in Crossgar by a man armed with a knife. Magees Wine Shop on Downpatrick Street was robbed around 6.40pm on Monday.
“Police received a report at 6.45pm that a man entered the shop and pulled a knife from his pocket, demanding money from the female member of staff. A sum of money was taken before the man left the shop in the direction of Station Park," a Detective Inspector Duffield said.
“The suspect is described as being of medium build, with fair hair and was wearing a navy coloured Lonsdale tracksuit top, jeans and had a scarf pulled up over his mouth.
“Thankfully the female member of staff was unharmed during her ordeal. Our investigation is underway and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at time this incident took place or who may have captured dashcam footage to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 1748 14/11/22.”
In a post on social media, Magees Wine Lodge said: "Hi everyone, not really sure what to say in this post. Tonight at around 18:40pm we were robbed.
"We are very thankful that Sonya was left unharmed and the police arrived very quickly. We are all in a state of immense shock that this has happened. In our community it is a very rare occurrence and we’ve been left very shaken.
"We will be closed in the early part of the afternoon to allow detectives to carry out their investigation.
"If you were in the area between 6:30pm-7pm and saw anyone acting suspicious, please ring the police.
"This is also a warning to all other local businesses to be extra vigilant at this time and we pray that no one else has to experience this."
