A WOMAN appeared in court charged with the murder of father-of-three Tony Browne in west Belfast.

Mr Browne, who was 54, died in hospital following a stabbing incident at a house in Woodside Park in the Poleglass area on Friday night.

The incident was reported to police shortly after 10pm.

Wiktoria Maksymowicz, who is 33 and with an address in Woodside Park, appeared at Lisburn Magistrates' Court via videolink on Monday to face a single charge of murder.

The charge was read to the defendant via a Polish interpreter.

Ms Maksymowicz, who is a Polish national, replied that she understood the charge against her.

A PSNI officer told the court he could connect the accused to the charge

No application for bail was made and Ms Maksymowicz was remanded in custody until November 14.

West Belfast Sinn Féin councillor Danny Baker said left the community had been "devastated", as flowers were laid outside Mr Browne's home.

The deceased has been described as a "gentle giant" by his sister, Patricia Browne, who said her brother was popular with his neighbours and well-liked in the area.

Speaking to BBC NI yesterday, she said her family has been left "traumatised" by his death.

"Tony was our youngest brother…we just can't get our heads around it," Ms Browne said.

"I'm lost for words. I can't get it. Tony wouldn't hurt a fly. He had three beautiful kids, two wee twins he just adored and a son.

"He would have told me that he couldn't wait to see them walk down the aisle; how gorgeous they were. It's never going to happen."

She added: "I don't know how we move on from this. His poor kids, his poor wee son."

A death notice for Mr Browne described him as the "beloved father of Ryan, Shannon and Bobbi-Leigh, a loving son of the late Charlie and Peggy, a much loved brother of Eddie, Charlie, Betty, Peggy and Patricia, a loving uncle to all his nephews and nieces".
