A DOCUMENTARY about the life of writer and journalist Lyra McKee is set to be released in cinemas next month.

The 29 year-old when she was shot dead by the New IRA while observing a riot in the Creggan area of Derry in April, 2019.

In a new documentary trailer for 'Lyra', the story of her passion for journalism and tragic death is presented with a mix of her salvaged video recordings and interviews from those closest to her.

Often seen laughing on camera, she tells the viewer in one clip: "I am the most annoyingly curious person I know."

Released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on November 4, the film was directed by close friend and BAFTA-winning Alison Millar and produced by Hillary Rodham Clinton's HiddenLight Productions.

Speaking ahead of the release, Ms Millar commented: "Thank you to everyone who helped make this film - Lyra this is for you."

Last month, a man convicted of possessing the gun used to shoot Ms McKee was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Niall Sheerin pleaded guilty to possession of a pistol and ammunition with intent to enable another person to endanger life.

Three other men are also awaiting trial charged with the murder.
