Investigation under way after police car crashes into Lisburn shop

AN investigation is under way after a police car crashed into a shop in Lisburn, narrowly missing a customer.

The PSNI vehicle was responding to an emergency call when the collision happened shortly after 11.30am

The vehicle swerved to avoid another car which was being driven by a member of the public when it left the road and crashed into the front of a Spar shop on the Longstone Road.

A customer inside the shop narrowly missed being struck by the vehicle as stock fell around her.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Shortly after 11.35am today, Wednesday 21 September, a police vehicle was involved in a road traffic collision on Longstone Street, Lisburn.

"The driver of the police vehicle was responding to an emergency when they had to take evasive action to avoid a collision with a vehicle driven by a member of the public.

"Damage was caused to commercial premises but thankfully no injuries have been reported at this time.

“Enquiries are underway to establish what occurred and anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have captured it on their dash cam, is asked to call police on the non-emergency number 101".
