A MAN in his twenties has died after his scrambler motorcycle crashed in Co Derry.

The victim, named locally as Ryan Speirs, a contractor and father-of-two from Magherafelt, was involved in a collision at Castledawson Road outside the town at around 4pm on Saturday.

Police are investigating the circumstances and have appealed for witnesses or video footage.

Sinn Féin councillor Sean Clarke said the area is in “total shock”.

“My thoughts are with the family of this young man at this devastating time for his family,” he said.

“This loss will be felt right across Magherafelt and beyond, and it is tragic that another life has been lost on our roads.”

A death notice said his loss was “deeply regretted by his sorrowing father, mother, sister, Clodagh, children, godmother/ aunt Jolene Neeson, uncles, aunts and extended family circle.”

Tributes were paid last night to Mr Speirs, who had previously carried out PR work for club night organisers Revival, which hosts dance events in Belfast.

A spokesperson for the organisation said in a social media post: “We wish all the strength in the world on to his family, his girlfriend and his two kids in this time of need.

“Keep the party alive up there, Ryan.”
