HOLLYWOOD actors Matthew Broderick and his wife, Sarah Jessica Parker made a special visit to Donegal at the weekend to attend a GAA tournament which they sponsored.

The Ferris Bueller star and the Sex-and-The-City starlet were pitch side at Towney Park in Kilcar for Sunday’s Broderick & McClafferty Cup tournament.

The event was established in memory of Matthew’s parents, James and Patricia Broderick, who holidayed in south Donegal often and were big supporters of the local club.

Matthew, Sarah and their three children, James, Tabitha and Marion, happily presented medals and the winning trophy.

The couple are no strangers to the area as their holiday home has been in Matthew’s family for more than 40 years. It was extensively renovated in 2018.

Just last week, Sarah, who is best know as author and style-guru, Carrie Bradshaw in Sex-and-The City, hinted that she was enjoying time in Donegal when she posted a picture online of a cup of tea on a stone wall.

The New Yorkers, who are regularly seen in the area and often spotted in local restaurants and shops, enjoy the relaxed pace of life and the fact that local people respect their privacy.

In 2019, Sarah Jessica Parker turned up in a local store for last-minute provisions last Christmas Eve.

The family also stopped for breakfast at Hotel Kilmore in Cavan town.

Ms Parker told staff and guests she was looking forward to her winter holiday in Co Donegal which she said was a "beautiful place to spend Christmas".

The previous year, Ms Parker and her family remained in Donegal throughout the festive season, celebrating new year in Kilcar.

The star posted on Instagram, praising the county, posting: "Happy new year from a remote but beautiful land far away where wi-fi often eludes us but 2019 will not".
