TWO people have suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car that drove at them outside a house in north Belfast.

The incident occurred at Ashfield Gardens in the Skegoneil area shortly after 7am yesterday.

A shocking online video shows a car accelerating towards a man and a woman as they stand outside a house following a verbal altercation.

The man can be seen shouting towards the driver of the red car before it turns towards the pair.

In the footage, the red Mazda car strikes the pair and crushes the woman against a front door frame before it leaves the area.

A PSNI spokesperson said both victims sustained "serious injuries" before "the offender then made off from the scene".

"Our colleagues at the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended and provided medical treatment to the male and female who were transported to hospital for treatment to their injuries," the spokesperson said.

"Our investigation is currently at an early stage and I would appeal to anyone who was in the Ashfield Gardens area during this time, and who witnessed anything or has video footage of this incident, to contact police."

Police arrested a 30-year-old man on Sunday night on suspicion of attempted murder, aggravated burglary and related offences.
