A MAN has died following a road collision in Co Derry earlier this week, police have confirmed.

The crash occurred in the Smith Street area of Moneymore shortly after 5pm on Tuesday.

A blue BMW Z3 car collided with a HGV lorry. The deceased was the driver of the BMW, it was confirmed last night.

A n ambulance service spokesperson said on Tuesday evening that two emergency crews and the charity Air Ambulance were tasked to the scene, but added that no-one was taken from the site.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit are asking for witnesses or anyone who may have captured dashcam footage to get in touch. They can be contacted on 101, quoting reference 1330 02/08/22.

Mid Ulster SDLP councillor Christine McFlynn said: "This is devastating news for the victim's family and another tragedy for the community on our roads.

"Moneymore and the entire Mid Ulster area will be united in support for his loved ones at this heartbreaking time, and our thoughts remain with them."

Meanwhile, 10 people were injured yesterday in Co Offaly in a crash involving a bus and a lorry.

The collision occurred on the R402 road between Daingean and Ballinagar at around 2.50pm.

It is understood that those taken to hospital were being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A Gardaí spokesperson said the 10 were taken to nearby Midlands Regional Hospitals.
