Man due in court charged with murdering Una Noone (77) in Cookstown

A 45-year-old man with appear in court today in connection with the death of a woman in her seventies in Cookstown.

The PSNI has launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of the 77-year-old - named by police as Margaret Una Noone - at a house in Cookstown's Ratheen Avenue area on Sunday.

Officers arrived at the house shortly before 11am on Sunday morning after responding to a call.

The 45-year-old man was at the property upon their arrival, and he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The man is due to appear at Omagh Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Officers are continuing to urge anyone with information on the woman's death to contact the PSNI's Major Investigation Team at Cookstown Police Station on 101 quoting reference 630 19/06/22.

Cookstown SDLP councillor Kerri Martin said the area remained in "shock" following the death.

Speaking of the deceased's family, she added: "I know that people across the town will rally round at such a difficult time."
