THE Lord Mayor of Dublin will host a John & Pat Hume Foundation discussion on how to build common ground across Ireland and Britain.

Mayor Alison Gilliland will take part in discussions on enhancing relationships in Northern Ireland, on the island and between Ireland and Britain.

Former Stormont ministers Lord Reg Empey and Mark Durkan will be among the speakers.

The event will be held the Mansion House at noon on Saturday.

Dr Sean Farren, chair of the Hume Foundation, thanked Ms Gilliland for hosting its fifth discussion on the theme of building common ground.

"Given the uncertain political situation in NI, it is vital we create opportunities for dialogue and discussion which enhance relationships in Northern Ireland, on the island and between Ireland and Britain," he said.

Ms Gilliland said it was a "huge honour and privilege" to host the discussion.

"It is vitally important that we create opportunities for dialogue across the island which promotes a shared home place which is based on respect for difference, promotes dignity and values diversity," she said.
