A man who died after a collision involving a motorcycle and tractor in Co Derry has been named as Ainslie Gordon.

The collision involving a Massey Ferguson tractor and Triumph Daytona motorbike took place at Aughrim Road, near Magherafelt, just before 8.30pm on Tuesday.

The 49-year-old was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.

Mr Gordon, a father-of-two, is from a well-known family in the Cookstown area of Co Tyrone.

SDLP assembly member Patsy McGlone said his thoughts were with his family.

"I can only imagine the pain they are going through after losing a loved one in such unexpected and devastating circumstances and they have my deepest condolences," he said.

“The Aughrim Road is a major road into Magherafelt that is used by vast numbers of people every day and this incident will be a shock to the local community who will no doubt extend their deepest sympathies to the relatives of the man who was tragically killed."

Mr McGlone encouraged anyone with any information or dashcam footage to come forward.

DUP assembly member Keith Buchanan offered his condolences to Mr Gordon's family "in this tragic event".
