A 22-YEAR-old nursing student from Ballymena will compete at this year's Miss World competition after being crowned Miss Northern Ireland.

Daria Gapska took the title on Monday night during a gala event at the Europa Hotel in Belfast where she faced competition from 23 other competitors from across the north, including runner-up and Miss Belfast, Poppy Smith.

Among judges at the event were the current Miss World 2022, Poland's Karolina Bielawska.

Miss Gapska said she was "so grateful" to take the Miss NI title, which was last year held by Anna Leitch.

The Ballymena woman will travel to Puerto Rico in December to compete in the 71st Miss World contest.
