The Co Down woman appeared before Newtownards Magistrates Court

A CO Down woman appeared in court today accused of encouraging a young boy to send her sexually explicit images of himself.

At Newtownards Magistrates Court, Christine Malone (54) confirmed she understood the 15 charges against her, all alleged to have been committed on various dates between May 26 and August 23 2014.

Malone, from Green Road in Conlig, faces nine counts of doing an act, namely the boy "to send you indecent images" and that would have been "capable of encouraging or assisting him to commit an offence, namely the distribution or showing of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children".

She was also charged with six offences of possessing indecent photographs of a child.

Malone was told that although not obliged to she had the right to comment on the charges and to call evidence to the court on her own behalf, but she declined the opportunity.

Freeing her on her own bail of £500 with conditions to reside at home and to have no contact with witnesses, District Judge Mark Hamill returned the case to Downpatrick Crown Court, but did not set a date for the arraignment.
