Police have appealed for information after a man armed with a knife attempted to rob a shop in north Belfast.

The man entered the premises on the Crumlin Road at around 5pm on Wednesday.

Armed with the knife, he demanded money from the till but left empty-handed, escaping on foot in the direction of Legmail Street, towards the city centre.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Thankfully, no injuries were reported by any staff members in the shop at the time, however, this was a terrifying incident for them."

The man was wearing a dark-red jacket with white stripes on the shoulders, orange `hi-vis' trousers with reflective stripes and a dark coloured hat. His face was also covered.

Police have appealed for information.
