BRITISH Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is to meet European Commission vice president Maros Sefcovic today for the latest round of talks on the Northern Ireland Protocol.

Ahead of the discussions, which are due to take place in London, Ms Truss emphasised the importance of the talks "continuing at pace".

It follows meetings between the pair at Chevening and in Brussels in January, as well as the foreign secretary’s visit to Belfast last month, where she heard first-hand the impact the protocol is having on local businesses and communities.

Ms Truss has also been in regular contact with Mr Sefcovic to take stock on negotiations between the UK and EU.

"Fixing the Northern Ireland Protocol is an absolute priority for me," she said.

"We have a shared responsibility with the EU to work towards solutions as quickly as possible that deliver for the people of Northern Ireland.

"I look forward to meeting Vice President Sefcovic in person again today."
