A FOUNDING member of a Belfast community TV station has died after a short illness.

Marilyn Hyndman, who was 68, passed away yesterday.

As well as setting up Northern Visions (NVTV) in 2004 she was also a co-ordinator and programme producer for the station.

In a tweet, filmmaker Simon Wood said it was "shocking news".

He wrote: "Northern Visions and many community, voluntary and campaign groups owe a huge debt of gratitude to Marilyn’s tireless work.

"She will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew and worked with her."

Journalist Malachi O'Doherty replied: "Shocking news. Her book Further Afield: Journeys From a Protestant Past was indispensable, a huge contribution to political debate here as a profile of the complexity of what we lightly call the protestant community. I have always kept it within reach."

Anne Cadwallader, who works at the Pat Finucane Centre, described Ms Hyndman's death as "terrible news".

"She gave so much to the community and was a passionate believer in media for the people. Deepest sympathy to Dave, the family and all at Northern Visions," she said.

Radio and TV presenter Robin Elliott said: "I am in total shock after just hearing the really sad news that Marilyn Hyndman has passed away.

"Both Marilyn and Dave have been a big part of my life for the last 20 years and have given me so many great opportunities. It has been a total privilege to work with Marilyn at Northern Visions.

"Marilyn worked so hard to help others and so many community, voluntary and campaign groups as well as everyone at Northern Visions will miss her terribly. Thinking of Dave and all the family at this time. "
