TWO men armed with a knife have robbed a shop in east Belfast.

The pair entered the premises on Beersbridge Road at around 8.30pm on Monday.

Police said the first man produced a knife and demanded money while his accomplice emptied cigarettes into a holdall.

A member of staff was then forced into the back office by the first man who demanded the safe be opened. He then removed a sum of cash.

A charity box, a large quantity of cigarettes and bottles of alcohol were also taken by the men who escaped on foot.

Both men, who are described as around as 5ft 10 ins tall, were wearing black clothing and black face masks.

The first man is of thin build while the second man is described as being of a stocky build.

A PSNI spokesman said both members of staff "whilst physically unharmed, were left shaken by what was obviously a terrifying experience for them".
