A father and son who died in a murder-suicide in Co Donegal are to be buried together today.

Daniel Duffy (88) and his son, Damien (50) were found dead in Letterkenny on Thursday.

The pair were found at Mr Duffy Snr's home at Windyhall at around lunchtime.

It was reported that Mr Duffy was found in his home while his son was found in a car in an adjacent garage.

Gardaí are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

The remains were later removed from the scene and taken to Letterkenny University Hospital where post-mortems took place though the results have not been reported.

A retired public servant, Mr Duffy Snr, who was a widower, and who had been head of ESB in Letterkenny for a number of years, had not been seen out and about for around a week.

Damien Duffy recently graduated with first class honours in Computing and had planned to do a Masters next, it was reported yesterday.

Both were said to be Manchester United fans and season ticket holders.

Letterkenny’s Fine Gael mayor, Jimmy Kavanagh, said he personally knew Daniel Duffy, whom he described as a “very personable man”.

Garda said the results of the post mortem would "determine the course of the investigation".

Daniel and Damien's remains yesterday reposed at The Eternal Light Chapel of Rest, Mountain Top, Letterkenny.

Requiem Mass will take place today at 11am at St Eunan’s Cathedral.

Burial is due to take place afterwards in the family plot at St Mary’s Cemetery, Ramelton.

Daniel Duffy is predeceased by his wife, Christine.

Their daughter, Caroline, who was 48, died two years ago following a battle with cancer.

The two men are survived by Mr Duffy Snr's daughter, Anne-Marie Giles, who lives in Killylastin.
