Covid-19: Five more deaths as 1,658 new cases recorded

Five people who had previously tested positive for Covid-19 have died, the Department of Health has confirmed.

Another 1,658 positive cases of the virus have been recorded.

This morning, there were 317 Covid-positive patients in hospital, of whom 35 were in intensive care. Of these, 28 are on ventilators.

The infection rate per 100,000 in the north is currently 661.1.

Today's figures were released as it was revealed around 13,000 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed among pupils and staff in schools in Northern Ireland in the last month.

Statistics show 1,250 school staff and 11,575 pupils tested positive in the four weeks up to November 28.

The figures also reveal more than half of cases were associated with post-primary schools.
