Covid-19: Six more deaths as 1,681 new cases confirmed

Another 1,681 cases of the virus have been recorded

Another six people have died after contracting Covid-19, the Department of Health has confirmed.

It brings the total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 to 2,820.

Another 1,681 cases of the virus have also been recorded

There have been 11,122 cases over the past seven days, up from 9,019 in the previous week.

There are currently 419 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 34 in intensive care. Of these, 22 are on ventilators.

Hospitals in the north are operating at a capacity of 103 per cent. There are 217 patients awaiting admission to hospital.

Today's figures were released after it was confirmed mandatory vaccine passports are to be introduced after Stormont ministers backed the move - despite opposition within the DUP.

Meanwhile, a further 4,650 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the Republic of Ireland this evening.
