Police are questioning three people

POLICE were last night still questioning three people following an assault in north Belfast.

A man and a woman were attacked by three people armed with a hammer in the North Queen Street area on Saturday.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "Shortly before 1.30pm, we received a report that two women and a man, armed with a hammer, had gained access to the property and assaulted a 24-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman who were inside.

"Both sustained injuries during the assault and the man was taken to hospital for treatment.

"Two women and a man, all aged in their 40s, have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and remain in police custody at this time.

"I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have any information in relation to it, to contact detectives."
