A MAN has been treated in hospital after being stabbed by an unknown male in east Belfast.

The incident occurred in the Belmont Road area on Sunday shortly before 5.30pm.

A PSNI spokesperson said the unknown male approached the victim and stabbed him once in the back.

"The man was taken to hospital following the incident where he remains receiving treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening at this time," the spokesperson said.

"An investigation into the incident is ongoing and detectives would ask anyone with any information to contact them at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 1638 31/10/21."
