Three-year Probation Order for 54-year-old man who had indecent images of children

A total of 28 indecent images and three banned images of children were located on three devices

A 54-year-old man has been made the subject of a three-year Probation Order after he admitted possessing indecent images of children.

Edward Dalton was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for five years after appearing at Belfast Crown Court today.

Imposing the orders on the father-of-one, Judge Neil Rafferty QC told the 54-year old the pictures he possessed involved "real life sexual assaults on real life children who cry, scream and endure these assaults so that images can be created for someone like you to watch".

Dalton, from Hornby Parade in Belfast, admitted charges of possessing both indecent images and prohibited images of children.

He was arrested after his home was searched by police on January 7, 2016.

A number of electronic devices were seized during the search, with Dalton telling officers "it's nothing really bad - they popped up when I was looking at regular porn sites".

A total of 28 indecent images and three banned images of children were located on three devices.

Branding this as a "modest amount", Judge Rafferty noted that eight of the images were in the most serious category.

The judge imposed the Probation Order and told Dalton that as part of this, he had to complete a two-year course designed to address his offending behaviour, telling him it was "not an easy option."
