AN anti-abortion group has called on church leaders to take part in a campaign to repeal Northern Ireland's laws on terminations.

Abolish Abortion NI held a protest outside St Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh today during a service to mark the centenary of the foundation of Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland's abortion laws were liberalised in 2019 following legislation passed by Westminster - a move the group described as "tyranny".

The group asked church leaders to lobby politicians to change the law on terminations.

Mark Lambe of Abolish Abortion NI said today marked two years since abortions were decriminalised.

“Today, on the second anniversary of that dreadful day, the main church leaders will have a unique opportunity to address the very people involved in the creation and implementation of these laws," he said.

“We urge our church leaders to use this opportunity to reach out to our political representatives, to call on them to repent and demand that they deliver equal protection under the law for all human beings by abolishing abortion immediately.”
