PEACE campaigner and former politician Monica McWilliams is to be honoured at an upcoming event for her work as a human rights defender.

The co-founder of the Northern Ireland Women's Coalition and negotiator of the Good Friday Agreement is also an emeritus professor at the Transitional Justice Institute at Ulster University, and will be guest of honour at the online Women of Concern Change Makers event.

The gathering is held annually by Concern Worldwide to celebrate women creating positive change.

Concern chief executive Dominic MacSorley said: "Professor McWilliams has been a driving force behind campaigns opposing discrimination, promoting peace and women’s rights and tackling poverty across four decades. She is an inspiration to us all today.

The virtual event will be streamed on Concern’s YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn channels at 1pm on Friday.
