Homes evacuated in Carrick following discovery of suspicious object

A NUMBER of homes in Carrickfergus have been evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious object.

Police said the object was discovered in the Hawthorn Avenue area of the town on Sunday evening.

"A number of home have been evacuated and cordons are in place. Motorists are asked to avoid the area," a PSNI spokesperson said last night.

Carrick DUP councillor Billy Ashe said: "We thought we had left this behaviour behind a long time ago, but once gain residents are being forced from their homes.

"This activity doesn't serve any purpose, and I would urge anyone with information to contact police."
