Search continues at Belfast Lough for seal with drinks can stuck to jaw

THE search for a seal with a soft drink can stuck to its jaw continues at Belfast harbour.

The marine mammal was initially spotted in water at Belfast Lough on Wednesday, leading to wildlife campaigners fearing it may be at risk of drowning if the can was not removed.

The Debbie Doolittle Facebook page posted images of the seal and urged anyone who could assist to try and rescue it.

However, despite a rescue operation involving volunteers and even an RNLI Lifeboat, the stricken creature evaded capture.

It was spotted again yesterday at a harbour slipway, but the public were warned not to approach it.

A spokesperson for the page said in a post yesterday: "It may be a case that once it's gone a few days without food and is a bit weaker and not as quick to get away - that's the chance to catch it."
