THREE people have been arrested in connection with an incident in which a PSNI officer was hospitalised after his vehicle was struck by a car involved in a police pursuit.

Officers on patrol in the Crocknamack area of Portrush at around 12.15am on Saturday signalled for a grey Volkswagen Passat to stop, before a pursuit began that led to nearby Coleraine.

There, stinger devices were deployed to try and stop the car, which collided with a police vehicle.

One officer sustained injuries which required hospitalisation and was unable to continue with their duties.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences including driving with excess alcohol in his breath, failing to stop for police, and dangerous driving. He was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

A 19-year-old man arrested at the scene was also released on bail, while a 20-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of a number of motoring offences. He remained in police custody yesterday evening.
