A man and woman have been treated for injuries after being hit with a bottle in an assault in Dromara.

The incident occurred in the Dromore Street area of the Co Down village at around 1.45am on Sunday.

PSNI Detective Inspector James Johnston said the man, aged in his fifties, and the woman who was in her twenties, were in a car park when they were approached by a man who struck them with a bottle.

"The male victim was taken to hospital by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service for treatment to his injuries," he said.

"Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with information which could help, or who was in the area at the time and may have dashcam or other video footage to contact us on 101."
