A NEWRY schoolgirl and Junior Eurovision hopeful is preparing to take to the stage in London's West End next month to star in a special anniversary performances of the musical Children of Eden.
Sacred Heart Grammar School pupil Sophie Lennon is joining an all-star cast for two 30th anniversary concert performances of the biblically inspired show, written by Broadway legend Stephen Schwartz.
Presented by Forty Four Productions, it will be performed twice on Sunday October 3 at Cadogan Hall as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.
Eleven-year-old Sophie, a member of Newry's Flynn Performing Arts group and the London-based Stagebox theatre training organisation, was selected to sing alongside stars of West End shows including Chigaco, Cats and Wicked for next month's performances.
The talented young performer is also aiming to represent Ireland in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in France this December. She will be competing for a place in the final of the Irish competition in this Sunday's broadcast on TG4.
"It’s really exciting to be involved in a show that has such big West End music stars," Sophie said.
Her mum, Therese Lennon, added: "She’s really level headed so is going to school and rehearsing on Zoom in the evenings to get ready. She’s just loves performing – and these are some amazing opportunities for her."
Sophie has also been cast in an acting role in an under-wraps ITV show due to air next February.
