Woman in 50s killed in Co Monaghan crash

The Roslea Road in Clones, Co Monaghan remained closed yesterday following an early morning fatal collision.

Gardaí in Co Monaghan are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a woman in her 50s was killed in a crash close to the border.

The single-car collision occurred on the Roslea Road in Clones at around 5am on Monday morning.

The woman is understood to have been a passenger in the vehicle. Two men in their 20s and a woman in her 30s were taken to Cavan General Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.

The road remained closed yesterday.

"Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward," a Gardaí spokesman said.

"Gardaí are particularly appealing to any road users who were travelling on the Roslea Road out of Clones and the Largy Townland area between 4am and 5am and who may have camera footage to make it available."

Clones Sinn Féin councillor Pat Treanor said: "Speaking with people in the town today, there's a sense of shock following this tragic news. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased at this dreadful time, and we wish a full recovery for those injured in the crash."
