Driver (27) arrested for assault on police during routine traffic stop in Omagh

A check of police records revealed that he was disqualified from driving.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested during a routine traffic stop in Omagh after attempting to flee on foot and then assaulted police officers while they tried to restrain him. 

Police on patrol at approximately 9.30pm on Sunday on the Circular Road stopped a vehicle and spoke to the driver. A check of police records revealed that he was disqualified from driving. Upon being arrested the man attempted to make off on foot. 

Police pursued and while they attempted to restrain him he struck out assaulting multiple officers and damaging a police vehicle.

The man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified, using a motor vehicle without insurance, assault on police, resisting police and disorderly behaviour.
