A 35-year-old man was still being questioned last night about the murder of a 53-year-old man in Bangor.

Detectives were given an extra 36 hours yesterday to continue to question the man.

Police launched a murder probe after the 53-year-old was attacked at a property on Beatrice Road in the Co Down town on Wednesday - the second fatal stabbing in Northern Ireland since Monday.

It is understood the man had been living in the property - one of several apartments in a larger house - for a couple of months.

Local reports suggested the victim was married but separated from his wife.

The 35-year-old man is believed to live in the same block of apartments.
