AN INTER-COUNTY hurling semi-final briefly went international at the weekend when a broadcasting error suggested Dublin team-mates were representing England and Belgium.

During the Sky Sports coverage of the Dublin v Galway match a blood substitution was signalled to viewers with a flag from each country beside the names of the players.

Hurling fans across Ireland were quick to take screenshots of the mistake - which Dublin's rivals used as an opportunity to tease the side on social media.

Among those who spotted the error was former Down manager Ross Carr who asked: "Sky/GAA any chance."

One user commented: "Cian Boland of Belgium being replaced by Mark Schutte of England...I know Dublin is the capital but they're getting lads from all over the place now!!!!"

Another quipped: "Foreigners coming over here taking over all our sports", with someone else pointing out: "Neither a hurling Stronghold."

On the pitch Dublin beat Galway in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship semi-final 1-18 to 1-14 - their first provincial final since 2014.

Sky Sports did not respond to requests for an explanation.
