A WEST Belfast film-maker is to take High Court action against Eoghan Harris after he was targeted by an anonymous Twitter account linked to the former Sunday Independent columnist.

Seán Murray, director of Unquiet Graves, has issued proceedings in the High Court in Belfast over comments made by a Twitter account under the name of Barbara J Pym, after the late English novelist.

Mr Harris's contract with the Sunday newspaper was terminated last month after it emerged he was one of six people involved in the account.

Mr Murray's solicitor Niall Bradley said the legal proceedings are against Mr Harris and other anonymous contributors to the Twitter account.

"On various dates between August and October 2020 the twitter account BarbaraJPym @barbarapym2 posted numerous outrageous and derogatory comments in relation to our client and the integrity of the documentary ‘Unquiet Graves’ which he directed," he said.

"Legal proceedings were served on Mr Harris today.

"Mr Murray will take all necessary steps to protect his reputation and pursue all legal remedies available to him in light of the unscrupulous actions of Eoghan Harris and others who were operating this fake twitter account."

Other people targeted by the Barbara J Pym account are also taking legal action against Mr Harris.

Prominent journalists Allison Morris and Aoife Moore are taking action in Dublin's High Court.
