Man stabbed in head and back in east Belfast

A man has been stabbed in the head and back in east Belfast.

It happened on the Cregagh Road last night. He had been chased by a number of men from Killagan Bend towards Greenway just after 11pm, police said.

The victim was a man in his 40s who suffered a "particularly vicious attack" in which he sustained "a number of stab wounds to his back and head", according to police.

The man is in a stable condition in hospital, a police spokesman added.
