Portrush has been named the second best place for remote working in the UK.

Portrush, which is famous for its beaches and top surfing conditions, came second to Loch Lomond in Scotland in a survey of the best places to work from home.

The popular Co Antrim seaside town, which is home to the prestigious Royal Portrush Golf Club, was scored on its broadband speed, house prices, proximity to nearest major towns and cities, National Parks nearby, number of pubs, number of restaurants, and number of Tripadvisor attractions in the area.

Altogether, Portrush scored 53 out of 70.

Also making the top 10 list UK list was Castlewellan in Co Down, which came fifth with 48 out of 70 and Whitehead in Co Antrim, which came in at number eight with 44 out of 70.

In addition, in a separate top 10 list of the best locations for remote working in Northern Ireland, Portrush, Castlewellan and Whitehead, took the top three locations.

They were followed by Donaghadee and Hillsborough, both in Co Down, Loughgall, Co Armagh, Cushendun, Co Antrim, Kesh, Co Fermanagh, Gortin, Co Tyrone and Belleek, Co Fermanagh.

Mathew Holland, of Hollands Country Clothing, which carried out the survey, said the Covid-19 pandemic had "brought so many changes into our lives, with one of the biggest being the shift to working from home.

"Whilst some companies are keen to get staff back in, many are weighing up options and it seems unlikely that everyone is going to want to go back," he said.

"With our focus on the UK countryside and country living, we created this index to reveal which UK villages would be the best for remote workers.
