One death linked to Covid-19 and 116 new cases

There has been one further death of a patient who previously tested positive for Covid-19, the Department of Health has confirmed.

It takes the total death toll recorded by the department to 2,137.

Another 116 people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24-hour reporting period. It means there have been 808 cases in the past seven days, up from 772 over the previous week.

This morning, there were 59 confirmed Covid-19 inpatients in hospital - the lowest figure so far this year. Nine patients are in ICU. Of these, six are on ventilation.

Bed occupancy in the north's hospitals is at 100 per cent. Four hospitals are operating beyond capacity; Belfast City Hospital, the Royal Victoria Hospital in west Belfast, the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen and the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald.

So far in the north, 1,174,847 vaccines have been administered; 876,290 first doses and 298,557 second doses.
