AN ATTACK on the home of a Syrian family in Newry has been described as “cowardly”.

Sinn Féin councillor Valerie Harte said there was “anger and disgust” in the city after the windows of the family’s home at Carlingford Park were broken and racist graffiti spayed on the premises.

“I am both disgusted and saddened to learn of this attack on this family who have just recently moved into the area,” she said.

“This was a cowardly attack carried out under the cover of darkness and forced this family to flee their home.”

Ms Harte said the attack was being investigated as a hate crime and she appealed for anyone with information to contact the police.
