A cross-community rally calling for unity in the aftermath of last week's loyalist disorder was held online last night.

The virtual event, involving community activists and prominent public figures, was facilitated by People Before Profit MLA Gerry Carroll.

Mr Carroll said the recent disturbances had increased tension and brought violence to interface areas.

"This violence does not represent the vast majority of people who want a future free of sectarianism and division," he said.

"To achieve this, we need to build working class unity across the divide – from the Shankill to the Falls, people have far more in common than divides them."

Among those taking part in the Unity not Division - Say No to Sectarianism rally were boxer Carl Frampton, community activist Linda Ervine and NUS USI President Ellen Fearon.
