A man was hospitalised after being attacked by masked men armed with a knife and hammer in west Belfast.

The 25-year-old was in a house in the Springfield Road area when two men entered shortly before 9.05pm on Friday.

The intruders attacked the man with a knife and hammer before causing damage to a TV and two kitchen windows.

Another man and a woman in the property at the time were not harmed.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101."
