Police have appealed for information after two men armed with large kitchen knives robbed a shop in east Belfast.

Just after 9.40pm yesterday, it was reported that two masked men armed with the weapons entered a shop on the Albertbridge Road and threatened staff.

They then fled the scene with cash and a quantity of cigarettes in the direction of Glenallen Street.

One of the suspects is described as being approximately 5ft 7in tall, of stocky build and possibly aged in his forties.

His accomplice is described as being of normal build and around 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall.

He was wearing a blue jacket and 'camouflage combat' trousers. He also spoke with a `raspy' voice.

A PSNI spokesman, who appealed for information, said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for staff and, while no one was physically injured, this was a traumatic and frightening ordeal and staff have been left shaken".
