A fire at an empty Craigavon flat is thought to have been deliberately set "with intent to endanger life".

Police and firefighters attended the blaze in Aldervale at 10.55pm yesterday, which "extensively damaged" the property.

While there was no-one there at the time, Detective Inspector Celeste Simpson said it "could easily have spread to other parts of the building and may have resulted in serious damage or loss of life".

"Enquiries are under way to establish the circumstances of this incident, which is being investigated as arson with intent to endanger life, and anyone with information is asked to call police on 101."
