AN inspector on a Glider bus in west Belfast has been left with facial injuries after being headbutted by a passenger.

The staff member was attacked at the Colin Connect Hub stop on the Stewartstown Road at around 7.30pm on Saturday.

The assailant then fled the scene on foot.

A 26-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of assault and assault on police.

In a separate incident, a Glider driver was also subjected to sectarian abuse while stopped outside the Royal Victorial Hospital on the Falls Road.

Police said the driver of a white Seat Ibiza was responsible.

Chief Inspector Mark Roberts said: "Attacks, whether physical or verbal, on staff providing any kind of service to the public are completely unacceptable.

"We work closely with Translink and will fully investigate when assaults on staff are reported. We are also asking for the support of the local community in showing zero tolerance to abuse of transport staff."
