FOUR people questioned by police investigating a large gathering of loyalists in east Belfast last month have been released pending reports.

The three men, aged 35, 39 and 40, and a woman aged 32, were detained on Wednesday on suspicion of terrorism and other related offences.

A number of searches also took place in the east Belfast, Dundonald and Newtownards areas as part of the operation following the gathering on February 2 in Pitt Park, off the lower Newtownards Road.

A PSNI spokeswoman yesterday said the four people were released pending reports to the Public Prosecution Service.

"The investigation into the incident is ongoing," she added.

Up to 60 masked men allegedly took part in the incident close to the Ballymac community centre, which police said was linked to the UVF.

A Belfast court was last month told that masked men allegedly took part in a "display of sinister force" in Pitt Park.

Three men Stephen Matthews (58), Derek Lammey (56), and David Robert Matthews (34), have all been jointly charged with unlawful assembly and affray in relation to the incident.

All three were remanded into custody.
